The only link between the murders are that they all bullied Danika. As she is the outcast at school fingers start to point to her as the murderer.
When we were looking at the 7 types of Psychographics, we thought that our film would most suited to The Strugglers. It is the kind of film that people will be able to watch to escape real world for reality, not realism. The film is quite fantastical, and takes an every day situation into a world that isn't so everyday. We also decided that the film should be a mass film, since the genre is a genre that a lot of people are interested in. The age group is generally younger people, and the we have classed it as an E class audience.
MAIN TASK STORY BOARDS

MAIN TASK CREATION PRE-PLANNING
We were split off into groups and then brainstormed our ideas. We came up with our initial and created a script and started to create the story board. In the story board we decided which scenes would go where, what sort of camera angles and shots we were going to have, and the sounds and dialogue that would go into that scene.
Once that was done, we created the floor plan. This is when it felt like it was really starting together, as we had to start thinking about what props we were going to use, where we would be filming it and what the actors would be wearing.
The next step, was to start filming!
MAIN TASK CREATION PART 1- Call sheets

These were our calls sheets. This allowed us to understand who was going to be who, and where they were going to be. The types of shots were also needed, the scene and any other information that was important.
When we first started filming, Nasmin was being filmed in her school clothes, since we were fimling within school hours, however, after re-considering the clothing, we realised she didnt look like the type of girl who would be bullied. So when re-filming, it meant that she had to change her clothing, so we decided on baggy clothing and to mess up her hair. Her make up when we first filmed was heavy and we decided to keep that to make her look like 'the odd one out' since the make up was applied badly.
MAIN TASK FLOOR PLANS
MAIN TASK CREATION PART 2
We have spent at least 3 hours filming different shots in the film. Because we wanted to create the feeling that the camera is a CCTV camera, we had to get the position of the camera right. In order to do this, I had to get two chairs and stand on them in the cubical. We chose the end cubical furthest away from the mirror since in the other cubicles you could see the camera in the reflection of the mirror. We took a lot of shots of her looking into the mirror so when it came to editing we could get the perfect shot. We then filmed with Chante in the shot as her imaginary friend, and I also filmed a lot of these. Then Chante dissapeared and we filmed the lipstick that was on the mirror smudged, and Nasmin starts to cry and slide down the wall.
The origional plan here was to make it so that after this shot, we see Nasmin stand back up and wash the blood off her hands. However, after thinking about it, we decided to add in a match on action shot where the camera cuts to next to her so we are filming her sliding down the wall and crying. This was to vary the choice of shots and show that we can use this type of shot.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH
Our research prezzie from Michaela M
As you can see, the majority that answered were girls, and were mainly aged 13-17, we did have a few older people answer aswell. This meant that the answers would be good to explore since this was our main target audience. Most people said they liked comedy, but along with some others, Horror came joint second. Nearly 40% said they liked horror films, where the rest said they didnt, which we had to think about when targeting our film. We had to incoperate the things that they liked to interest them if they didnt like horror films. People said they liked the suspense of a horror film and the idea of unaturao elements. We think that we encorperated this quite well since we had the imaginary charater suddenly dissapear, and through the use of the sound, we created suspense. They also said they liked jumps, and we did this through the sound towards the end. We also created jumps between the pictures and the shots of her washing her hands.

SOUND RESEARCH
Sound is so important when creating an opening for a film, since it sets the tone for the rest of it, and if it isn't right, the film opening may be damaged. When researching music and sound for the start of our film, the first place to go was of course Alfred Hitchcock. The dramatic music from the strings in the start of Psycho may be one of the most well known musical preludes. It has a dramatic tone, and shows a sense or urgency, setting up the film to be quite fast paced and dramatic. However, I don't think that this is the right tone that we want to set when creating our own music. I found it too fast and dramatic.
Then I looked at the film Halloween. The music here seemed a lot more psychologically creepier than Psycho. It was a very simple tune, and let me know that this was going to be a horror. I liked how it had a repetitive phrase throughout the theme, with a darker sound on top. I think using a repetitive piano phrase in the film would really build up the tension and let people know that this film is a horror, whilst creating that suspense since it sounds like something bad is about to happen.
I continued my research and looked at the Blair Witch Project opening. This opening used a lot of sound to create tension, rather than a particular theme tune. There was a lot of creaking, and it sounded like the wind was outside. At times it also sounded like there was heavy breathing or the wind moaning. At times there were also quite loud noises, like things dropping and wood creaking. This did create tension and it wasn't like any other opening I had come across in my research, so i liked that it was different and that it only used sounds to create tension and build up suspense, but I'm not sure if that is the correct tone for our opening, since our opening there are things happening, it's not based on one shot, which would make the suspense of the sounds fail. I think a phrase or a tune would be better for the sort of tone we want to create.
I then moved onto Shaun of the Dead. Although it is a horror, it is a horror comedy and you can tell by the opening sequence. The music is quite cheery, and even though there some sound effects of blood and zombies, and little children singing (which normally are associated with horror when it comes to horror films) it didn't set the right tone for me, because it was clearly a comedy, and a comedy is not what we are trying to create.
OPENING TITLES RESEARCH
Task 1
The purpose of a title sequence is to draw the audience in and create a lasting effect on them. The first few moments of an opening to a film are crutial, since you gage an idea of what the film might be like, and whether it will be worth watching. They want the title sequence to resenate with you and tell a story that is true to the story in the film. It launches the film, it creates icons for the film, and creates the tone. The title is of the movie, and cannot be the movie without the title sequencee. In Zombieland, the director took an approach of integration within the title sequence. As the shots moved, the text moved slightly in response to what was happening within the shot, creating an elligent look, but at the same time horrific. The text was interacting with the scene and became an actor. The designer of Blue wanted to show people that love did exist, and even though it was harsh, and hard to watch, but it was still there and they wanted to show this. One of their techniques was to take the lense off the camera, which created a wonderful effect. The designer used a few editing techniques by putting still images of the actors within fireworks, putting them in blackness with a touch of light to create that emotion that would connect the audience to the story and the actors.
Task 2
Hello Lonesome
It is a romantic drama or some people call it an Indie film. The shots are of a miniture town that has been made for the film, and they are almost still images, the only thing that moves at all is the zooming of the credits ever so slightly. The text is placed in a scene in the town, and are shadowed slightly. The whole thing is pretty basic, and the music is quite suggestive of a romantic film. The title sequence introduces the film as quite a simplistic and true to real life film. Because the idea of the title sequence is really simple, and relates to rela life, it makes me drawn to the film and interested to watch it, because maybe I will be able to relate to it. The fonts change slightly throughout the opening, reflecting that life is different everyday and supporting the idea that this film is true to real life. The transition is a basic snap to the next shot transition, which is almost like when you blink your eyes, again, supporting the idea of rela life.
Hansel and Gretal
It is a a horror(comedy)action film. There is a mixture of CGI, making the fire and the arrows look more real than the rest of it, since the rest of it has the style of being drawn, but it is editied to look like a cross between drawing and computer created. The constant orange fire suggests danger, which links into the action and the horror of the film, but also, links back to the fact that in order to kill the witches, they use fire, so this becomes a constant theme throughout the film. Apart from the fire, the title sequence is quite dark, and there is a sense of horror that is also created through the dramatic music. It introduces the film as a horror, and since it is based on the origional fairy tale, people who have grown up reading Hansel and Gretal may be extremely interested to see it. The font is quite witch like, in the sense that it almost reflects the newpapers fonts. It is quite dagger like, definately a font that people associate as quite dark and horrorific. There are quite a lot of sliding transitions between each of the shots, which suggests the transition between the amount of witches that Hansel and Gretal have hunted.
Se7en
The genre varies between a thriller and a crime fiction. There are some drawn parts, and some parts that have been filmed. It's dark for most of the shots, however, sometimes there are some dimly lit shots. Through the film music, and what you are looking at, I would say that it has already been introduced in a frightening manner. However, the darkness draws me in, since I become curious as to know what lays within the darkness, and the fact that this is already scaring me, shows me that I want to see the rest of the film. The text is almost like badly written handwriting, which is flickering, and changing slightly, as if it becomes thicker for a few moments. This creates the horror tone, since people associate flickering with something that is about to go wrong, such as the lights going out, due to some dark force. The transitions just seem to fade into each other, sometimes quickly fading to black and then back to the picture, almost like they are flickering, which links back to the font and the idea that something bad will happen.
Drive
The genre varies between action, thriller and crime/drama. The scenes follow a man who is driving in his car (reflecting the name of the film) making us guess that the main theme of the film will be cars and crimes. It fades the man driving with the place that he is driving through, with shows us the mix of the places he goes, but alsot creates a tone of being mixed in with crimes, and what goes on in the city behind closed doors. It introduces you to the film in a good way, setting up the tone of the film and through the use of the music, and what I see, I would like to see this film, since the fact that a lot of it was shot during the night time in the city with all the lights very bright, attracts me since i like these sort of films. The font is pink, and resembles handwriting. This struck me as quite odd when i first saw it, since titles arent normally very colouful, but the pink may recognise that there may be a love interest involved. It also makes me want to see it, since i havent seen titles like that before, suggesting that the film may be more origional than some others. The transitions are pretty basic such as fading into each other, again, suggesting the mixture between the crimes and what happens during the film.
Task 3
The whole point of the opening sequence of titles, is to set the tone for the film and to interest the audience. When we had to think about our credits, we wanted to let the audience know that this was going to be a horror film, but at the same time, we wanted it to be attractive to teens, so we did some research into other teen horror films. The main film that stuck out for us was Tormented (2009) The film, with a similar plot to ours seemed the perfect place to look for for inspiration. It too was set in a school with the theme of bullying, so we set to work on looking at the opening titles. The first scene is a girl being taken down the school steps by the police, with all of the her school peers watching her. It has been slowed down and the music is similarly slow and there is an eery feel to it with some odd noises being played ontop of it. The camera it's self is almost as if it is shakey cam but because of how slow it is, it isnt distracting to the fact that she is being forced into a police car. It then goes into 5 days earlier, where they are at a boy's funeral from the school, who died by killing himself due to bullying. We see the girl that was being put into the police car talking at the funeral. Then rock music starts of quiet whilst they are still at the funeral, but as the title sequence comes on it becomes louder. This struck me as quite interesting, since normally, you would expect to heart slow eery music, or something like a heart beat, to create tension, but since it was set in the school and around school life, with a bunch of teenagers, it suddenly seemed quite fitting. Reflecting this to be a horror comedy. The titles themselves seem to be written on very old or dirty tiles, with graffiti and drawings around them, which i quite liked the look of since it had that horror tone to it used through the dim lighting and the colours of the ink, but at the same time, it was aimed at teenagers and got my attention, since graffiti and doodling is something that i see every day. Sometimes in toliets, on walls that sort of thing. The transitions between the titles reflect the horror genre very well. It is a blink of an eye, as if we are blinking, but because the blink is much more noticable compared to when we blink, it gives us the sensation and the feeling that we are being watched, which also links into the conventions of a horror film. Each title appears for a good few seconds, but the camera sometimes snaps in close, sometimes snaps a bit further out, and sometimes goes out of focus before snapping back into focus. This again creates the effect of being watched. The graffiti looks as if it has been done by teenagers, and there are some grusome doodles and drawings with students heads falling off and bits of the body covered in blood, almost foreshadowing what will happen in the film, and letting us know that this is a horror film.
When creating our titles, we want the audience to know that our film is a horror film, but we also want them to know that it is based in a school and is about bullying. Therefore, it is important that we get a balance between showing them a horror side and showing them it is about bulling and is set in a school. It would be really good to use the graffiti effect. By getting blank sheets of paper and sticking them together, and then getting a lot of people to doodle and write the titles. It would fit with the idea of making a wall look like it's been graffitied on by a bunch of teenagers at school. I liked the idea of the camera going fast and quick at some points, so in our title sequence, we could zoom into some bits, pan over some of the titles and go fasten up some bits of it. However, because ours isnt a comedy, i dont think rock music would be appropriate, so instead of that type of music, we could have a simple heartbeat that quickens in pace as the sequence goes on.
TORMENTED REVIEW
Tormented (2009) Directed by Jon Wright is a horror-comedy written by Stephan Prentice. The film is about a group of school children who have been bullying one of the students. The begging scene is them at Darren Muller's funeral. The film explores the idea of revenge, where Muller comes back from the dead (after killing himself) and individually killing off the head girls friends. Muller was in love with Justine Fielding (head girl) when he was alive, however, when being bullied she took no notice of him and called him names like creep. Darren kills her boyfriend (who used to bully him as well) and leaves just as the police come, making it look like Justine killed him, the police then assume that she killed all of the others and the last scene is her being taken away in a police car.
Although the film has funny moments, it is not a light film. Starting with drowning, to heads being ripped off and blood everywhere. Even when some parts of the acting are poor, the film will have you screaming at the screen. From the camera angels to the lighting, it definately grips the importance of bullying and the idea that what goes around comes around. A film to watch.
When watching the opening titles, the film was linked to the bullying of a student, much like ours. The titles were almost written on paper, with doodles and graffiti around it. This hugely influenced the ideas for the film, because that worked well with the theme of the film, whilst giving it a creepy and spooky look, since it is within the school. The way that the camera filmed the names worked really well, by focusing and unfocusing, flashing and shaking the titles with a transition much like a blinking of an eye, which also added to the scary idea and the feeling of being watched all of the time. When comparing the title sequence with the ideas we had for our film, we really liked the idea of the graffiti since it was set in a school, so we decided to use that idea within our film.

EDITING RESEARCH
Here I wanted to create quite a dramatic effect and hint that something was going. So through the use of editing, I made hints and built up the tension. By putting the images in this order, it meant that people were able to get the idea that there was a party happening, hopefully understand that someone was making their way too it. I hinted that it was night, and that there would be a car involved, through the use of shot 6. The images of the party were the kinds of things that she was thinking about whilst making her way. However, I think I could have found a few better images to represent different aspects of this story. I also felt that If I had created a video of it, I could have represented my ideas through the use of editing to create a better understanding of the editing that would of happened in this shot if it had been say, in a film.
How does meaning change change when the shot order changes?
If I was to change the shot order, it would change the story a fair amount. If I hadn't put the car or the road in the order that it is in, it wouldnt have created the same tense feeling and wouldn't of hinted that something would happen such as a car hitting her on the way to the party. Almost giving it a different genre. If the party images were to come after the car images, it may have made it look like they were throwing the party in her memory or after she had died, changing the story line dramatically.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRANSITIONS
- Cuts- This is the most basic type of transition, and is the most common way to join to shots.
- Straight Cut- Very basic. This is where Shot A abruptly ends and Shot B starts.
- Contrast Cut- A cut to show two juxtaposing shots or subjects.
- L Cut- A technique that makes the shot happen at a different time from the audio.
- From Cut- A shot that brings two different shots with familiar shaped objects in together.
- Match Cut -The cut joins two shots with similar frames together.
- Parraellel Editing Cut- A cut showing one scene, but creating a parrallel in order to engage and excite the audience.
- Jump Cut- This is usually a result of a continuity problem.
- Fade In- Where the picture eventually fades from one particular colour to the image.
- Fade Out- Where the picture fades into one particular colour.
- Dissolve- Where the picture or image gradually changes to one colour, or the colour gradually changes into the picture.
- Wipe- Where the next image in the film slides or 'wipes' across the screen to end the last image.
- Iris Wipe- A wipe that looks like your looking from inside an iris (eye), usually quite circular.
In this film, you can see many different types of transitions. The Straight Cut here was used to show the basic contecxt of the video, and to show it from different angels. The Matched Cut was used here to create a sense of the shots being smooth and similar. The Jump Cut was used here to create a dramatic affect. The Fade was used to make the shot feel more comfortable and natural rather than abrupt. The Dissolve was used to create that sense of natural and calmness, rather than it being an abrupt change.

PRELIMINARY TASK- STORY BOARDS
THE HOBBIT
These are reverse shots- over the shoulder but still being in line with the 180 degree rule. It's as if there is an imaginary axis; the camera can go anywhere with any angel as long as it's on the side of the line. If it goes past this line, the scene will look wrong. You must never break this rule.
TEAM AMERICA REVIEW During my holidays, I watched the film Team America directed by Trey Parker. Instead of using on screen actors, they used puppets, which made the film that little bit more funny. The film it's self showed us the sorts of racist stereotypes that people face everyday, and touched on sensitive subjects such as aids, however, Parker portrayed them in such ways that left me crying with laughter. The film, being inspired by ThunderBirds, was about a group of World Police, who receive information about the world's suspected terrorists, called I.N.T.E.L.L.I.G.E.N.C.E, and then appear from the faces of Mount Rushmore, which adds to the comedy of it. Using an undercover actor, Gary, they discover the plans of the Terrorist groups, and try to stop it, but at the same time, seem to blow up most of the worlds famous tourist attractions. Gary endures almost being killed, romance and having to face his past fears of acting, after his brother was killed by gorillas. There are many lines from the film that are herrendous but hilarious, which will stay in my mind for a while, not to mention, the fact that I was left with tears running down my cheeks and a stomach ache from laughing so hard. To me, it was one of the funniest films I've ever seen and I would reccomend it to those who need a serious laugh. MATCH ON ACTION RESEARCH This shot if from the film Finding Nemo which is a family film. At a first glance, the shot is well lit and has bright colours. This is where the fish live, the reef is presented as this really bright, colourful and lovely place to live shown through the gentle corrosponding colours. However, as you can see, the reflection of the sun on the water highlights the beams of light that seem to be pointing to the darker space in the picture. Bringing our attention to this darkness and unclearness of the picture, it hints that there is more to it and that it isnt quite what we think it is; it's clear something will happen. CAMERA SHOT
