Evaluation (Coursework)

MAIN TASK QUESTION 1-In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

QUESTION 2- How does your product represent particular social groups?

We wanted to create a film that encoporated race as well as age and social expectations. We had actors and voice overs from multi-cultural back grounds to explore and represent the ethnic variations that the school has.

QUESTION 3- Who would be the audience for your media product?

QUESTION 4- How did you attract/address your audience?

These were the repsonses we were hoping for. In one of the repsonses, when we asked a 17 year old girl what she thought could be changed, she struggled to think of anything, which was a good thing since she didnt think much could be changed. You can also see that in some of the responses, people  jumped or movef slightly towards the end, which was exactly what we wanted to do, since we know that our film was able to create fear and suspense.

QUESTION 5- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

QUESTION 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Question 6 by kaylalouiserosebaxter on GoAnimate

Video Maker - Powered by GoAnimate.

Whenever we had new film material, we uploaded it to IMovie. It was in Imovie that we created and edited the film. At first, it was really hard to get used to, since is quite an advanced type of software, but  mainly through trial and error we all learned how to use it effienciently and coherently.

QUESTION 7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I've learnt a lot through the process of trial and error. I've also learnt about the types of audience, how to make the genre clear and how to engage the target audience when creating a film. It is important that the film shows people what type of genre it is, to do this, following the conventions of the genre is crutial. For our fim, we had to look at the conventions of the horror genre. Because we were putting two themes together; bullying and horror, we had to look at the types of things that would show she is being bullied, whilst creating a clear understanding of the fact that this was also a horror film. In the preliminary task, we were more focused on getting certain shots, and also finishing the film in the time that we had, which made it feel a lot more rushed. The genre for the preliminary task was a romantic comedy, but through the use of mis-en-scene, we didnt really capture that, whereas in our main task, we were a lot more practical when it came to creating a clear genre.
